and that's what's led to this. what are your sources or people in the mlb circle saying about this, whether, you know, what he says has any truth? >> yeah. there might be some traction to that. you know, for every 50 games a-rod gets suspended, the yankees sustain $7 million. you can do the math. 215 games for the suspension, the yankees say, clear over $30 million for that suspension and that's why people are suggesting to a-rod, yankees in major league baseball saying ban for life. suspend him for as long as possible saving money with him off the field and the suspension, you're suspended without pay. your contract for the time of the suspension is void. so, that's another reason a-rod is saying they were conspireing with major league baseball to keep him off the field to save money if he's not playing. >> all right. andy sholes, thank you for being with us. if you want more information on this and the pending game that a-rod is scheduled to play in tomorrow, go to bleacherreport.com. thanks so much, andy. appreciate it. >> no problem. >>> a big story we're following today, 22 u.

fourth, and pleading fifth. and former mlb manager ozzie guillen tweeted, "it's all madonna's fault." every athlete she has been with has gone bad, canseco, rodman, and now rodriguez, lol, lol, lol. so many lols there. let's bring in rachel nichols, she's with cnn sports. funny comments, but the commissioner's office certainly isn't laughing here. >> no, hardly. when they suspended alex rodriguez yesterday, they used particularly harsh language in their statement. we said this was going to get ugly, well, it's getting ugly already. they could have just suspended him, talked about the status under which they suspended him. instead, they spelled out that he used multiple performance-enhancing drugs, including testosterone, they specified, including hgh over multiple years, making it clear this wasn't just a short period. their allegation is he used these drugs basically the entire time he was a yankee and all of those all-star numbers are fake, they are inflated. now alex rodriguez met the media shortly after that came out and he was asked point blank, did he use performance-enhancing

over that span, 18 rbis in 4 games. that's ties an ml b record. >>> speaking of the mlb, they're planning to expand instant replay next season. right now only umpires can review boundary calls like whether a home run is fair or foul, but under the new proposed system, managers will be able to challenge calls for review. now, balls and strikes can never be reviewed, but plays at bases, fair or foul balls, trapped catches, those can all be reviewed. before this is implemented in 2014, umpires and players are going to have to vote on it. then owners will have to approve it. >>> sarah thomas is a 39-year-old mother of three. now, she was actually the line judge in last night's saints/raiders preseason game. and this was an audition for sarah to possibly become the first full-time female referee in nfl history. now, she is absolutely no stranger to being the first in this profession. seven years ago at the collegiate level, she was the first female to officiate a division one football game. she was also the first female to officiate is bowl game. she will go back to refereeing college

. what we have right now in terms of the game, it's a waiting game to see what mlb decides to do specifically in terms of that suspension. >> jason, let me jump in. i think rachel nichols is about to break the news. rachel, what are you learning in the last 60 seconds that we haven't been talking? >> you may have seen me leaning over my desk. i was reading a press release from major league baseball. they have announced the suspensions of the 12 players, the players who have accepted their 50-game suspensions. they have not included alex rodriguez on that statement, so we are still waiting for the a-rod portion of this. but it is notable, 12 players suspended for using performance enhancing drugs. several star players on that list including johnny peralta of the detroit tigers, including nelson cruz of the texas rangers, guys who are basically saying, i give. you caught me. and they are accepting these suspensions. that is huge. we are still awaiting word of what's going to go on with alex rodriguez. interesting to see this trickle out the way it is. i mentioned that espn report t
